A critical component of the Central Okanagan Smart Transit Plan is the pedestrian/cycling overpass adjacent to the Landmark District on the south side and the City-owned Parkinson Recreation Complex on the north side of Highway 97. The overpass provides a safe, convenient crossing of the busy six-lane Highway 97 providing access for our tenants and their employees to recreational facilities and green space north of the highway.
Many of the tenant employees in our buildings are professionals or working in technology-based companies who are striving for a balanced lifestyle which includes physical fitness and the overpass provides a link between pedestrian and cycling networks that currently exist north and south of the highway.
This overpass also connects to the city’s new Bus Rapid Transit service within the Highway 97 corridor running from the new District of West Kelowna to the UBC Okanagan campus providing strong incentive for many of our tenant employees to substitute transit for at least some of their automobile trips thereby reducing vehicle emissions.
